HDF5 1.8.0 Beta 2 Released

HDF5 1.8.0 Beta 2 was recently released. Most features planned for HDF5 1.8.0 are now available and working.

There are a lot of exciting new features in the 1.8.0 release. We encourage you to try the HDF5 1.8.0 Beta 2 software, and would like to hear your comments.

HDF/HDF-EOS XI Workshop Scheduled

The HDF/HDF-EOS XI Workshop has been scheduled for November 6-8, 2007, and a "Call for Topics" has been announced.

This workshop is NOT just for HDF-EOS users. All HDF users are welcome and encouraged to participate. For details, see:

MSVC++ 6.0 Support Update

In the previous newsletter, we mentioned that we would be dropping MSVC++ 6.0 support. Since then, we have decided to continue MSVC++ 6.0 support in HDF5 1.6.6, which will be released soon. Support for MSVC++ 6.0 is currently in the HDF5 1.8.0 Beta software. However, it will NOT be included in the final release of HDF5 1.8.0.

HDF5-OPeNDAP Handler

The HDF Group and OPeNDAP are working together to develop software to access HDF5 data via OPeNDAP's Data Access Protocol. We are in the final process of developing an HDF5-OPeNDAP handler to access HDF5 data via OPeNDAP. Users can go to the following link to gather information on how to build the HDF5-OPeNDAP handler:
